Stonecrest staff outline Barrington and Miller bridge replacements; residents worry local streets will be strained by detours

The acting deputy city manager briefed the TIPS Committee that multiple state projects will affect local travel this spring and summer and that the city will publish formal detour information when it is available.
On state projects, staff reported that the Barrington Road bridge will be replaced soon, with a “major shutdown” expected in late April or early May and a scheduled completion date cited as August 2025. Staff also reported that Miller Road bridge demolition has been completed and the Miller Road bridge project has a similar August 2025 completion target. The Panola Road/I‑20 interchange construction schedule was reported to have been advanced, with staff saying the date was moved up to May 2025 from December 2025.
Committee members expressed concern about DOT detours routing heavy traffic through residential streets. George Turner and others said GPS-suggested detours have been directing traffic onto Rock Springs Road, a narrow two-lane road that committee members said is not designed to handle heavy truck traffic and is showing accelerated wear and shoulder loss. Committee members asked staff to document damage and raise the issue with DOT so the county or state can consider maintenance or reparations when detours are in effect.
Staff said they will circulate the official CDOT detour plan once it is released and will follow up on ownership questions about which agency is responsible for long-term maintenance and paving decisions for roads such as Barrington Road.
