Pickens County Recreation reports record spring participation; football registration and Super Bowl hosting announced

Pickens County’s parks and recreation director gave the Board of Commissioners a spring update at the work session, reporting record participation in youth baseball, softball and tee ball and outlining upcoming programs and events.
Brian (parks and rec) said opening day for baseball, softball and tee ball was March 22 and that the department now has 607 players across roughly 60 teams — making baseball the largest program. For the first time in several years the department added a 13‑14 year old division for baseball and softball, he said.
Brian said football registration will open in May, with the registration fee set at $100. He also announced the department will host the regional all‑day “Super Bowl” event at Pickens High School, a full‑day tournament scheduled from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Brian described other ongoing activities: organized soccer using the county’s soccer complex and Roper fields (about 43 soccer participants reported), periodic blood drives in May and June, and continued facility rentals and election support at the community center. No policy decisions were taken during the work session; the presentation served as an informational update.
Commissioner Miss Scott publicly thanked recreation and road department staff for support during elections and large events.
