Ocean Shores Library trustees approve updated strategic plan, welcome two new pages

The Ocean Shores Library Board of Trustees approved an updated strategic plan and welcomed two new library pages at a recent meeting, voting unanimously with a three-member quorum.

The board voted to approve the meeting agenda, the minutes of the previous meeting and the revised strategic plan. "I move that we approve our agenda for today," a board member said when the agenda was presented; later another motion to approve the strategic plan passed after an affirmative voice vote. Trustees present stated the approvals were unanimous.

The plan revision trims dated language and rearranges priorities to make the document "timeless," according to discussion during the meeting. Library staff introduced two new library pages. A staff member identified as Cathy said, "Hi. I'm Cathy. I can see." Autumn Nelson, who said she is "a senior at online school," introduced herself as a library page and said she enjoys working at the library.

The director's report, offered in the director's absence, noted that a trustee volunteered to represent the library at an upcoming City Council meeting on May 13. Board leadership also reported there is still no appointment to fill a vacant fifth seat on the board; recruitment efforts including advertising are ongoing.

On finances, staff reported January results were "0.53% ahead of budget" and February results "0.24% of budget" as summarized in the meeting; the board expects the library director to review procedures for budget review at the June meeting of the board of trustees.

Friends and foundation updates: the Friends of the Library now have 116 members and seven people on their executive board; reported donations included contributions from Ace Hardware and Ocean Sunset Drug. The Ocean Shores Library Foundation reported several resignations, that new attendees were being interviewed or introduced to the group, and that the foundation is finalizing a draft budget. The foundation is also surveying program attendees to identify future programs; a Medicare workshop was highlighted as a community interest.

Administrative items included scheduling of trustee presentations to the City Council (May 13 assigned; future dates to be set at the June meeting), and confirmation that the board's next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 11. The meeting adjourned without further action.
