Senate committee recommends Michael Huckabee for Livestock Loss Board

Michael “Wrangler” Huckabee, a second‑generation cattle rancher from Gila County, was recommended by the Senate Natural Resources Committee to the full Senate for appointment to the Arizona Livestock Loss Board.
Huckabee told senators he raises cattle on land bordering the White Mountain Apache Reservation and has seen wildlife and predation impacts on herds from coyotes, mountain lions and bears. He said his goal on the Livestock Loss Board would be to help “bridge the gap between ranchers and conservationists” and to oversee systems that compensate ranchers for verified losses.
Committee members asked about protecting both livestock livelihoods and wildlife populations, including Mexican gray wolves. Huckabee said the Livestock Loss Board’s primary role is to compensate ranchers for verified losses so that coexistence is practical and ranchers are not driven to take illegal measures. “What this board does is to help compensate the rancher … where the wolves aren't viewed as bad predators,” he said, and added he supports coexistence strategies.
A committee motion to recommend Huckabee’s confirmation was offered and the committee approved the recommendation to the full Senate. The committee’s vote record shows the nomination moved forward with committee approval.
