Perrysburg Exempted Village staff announce student bill of rights, poster with QR code for reporting

Chris Harper, assistant director for student services and well-being for Perrysburg Exempted Village, said the district has established a student bill of rights and will display posters in school buildings describing students' rights and how to report concerns. "Students have the right to be treated with dignity and to learn in an environment free from harassment, discrimination, and any inappropriate conduct by staff members or other students," Harper said.

Harper said the poster lists specific rights and reporting information. "You have the right to a safe learning environment. You have the right to be heard and taken seriously. You have the right to know how to report," he said, adding the poster also notes "You have the right to confidentiality, and you have the right to protection from retaliation." The poster includes a QR code that students can scan "for further details," Harper said.

Harper described six different ways to report incidents; he said those options are listed on the bottom right of the poster for students who "feel uncomfortable, unsafe, or coerced, or you know of someone who has been in a situation that is uncomfortable, unsafe, or coerced." He asked the school community to "continue to work together to make ensure that we have a safe environment for everyone," and encouraged students to speak up if they observe concerning behavior: "If you see something, I encourage you absolutely to say something."
