County proclaims National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and honors dispatch staff

Berkeley County commissioners on April 10 adopted a proclamation recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April 13–19) and used the occasion to honor individual staff members for 2024.
Jennifer Swisher, director of emergency communications, read the proclamation and spoke to the county's telecommunicators, noting their role as "the calm voice in the dark" and describing 2024 as a year in which the team handled "tens of thousands of calls" with professionalism. Swisher thanked staff and described the week as an opportunity to recognize the work of dispatchers who collect information, provide instructions and dispatch responders 24/7.
The commission presented the Telecommunicator of the Year award to Telecommunicator 2 Danielle Ray. Swisher's summary of Ray's citation noted that Ray had become a certified training officer, assisted with the training academy, revamped NCIC training materials, and maintained top quality‑assurance scores. The 2024 Supervisor of the Year award went to Chasidy (Chastity) Loveless, recognized for high-quality assurance scores, shift flexibility, and morale-building efforts and community outreach.
