The Fall River Commission on Disability voted unanimously on April 9 to award $2,000 scholarships to each of 11 recipients and to allocate $8,000 to cover this year—s scholarship awards event.
Commission Chairman Dennis Paulselli said the commission—s account balance supports the recommendation and explained a venue scheduling change forced a new event date. "There was a mix up, which can happen when you're dealing with a lot of banquets and weddings and graduations," Paulselli said, adding the event date was moved from May 3 to May 24, 2025.
The commission chair reported the account held "over $132,000 and change." The group noted last year—s award was $1,500 per recipient and the three years before that each recipient received $3,000. Commissioners discussed awarding $2,000 this year so the commission would retain a substantial balance after the allocations.
Vice Chairwoman Debbie Pacheco formally seconded both motions. The roll-call votes were recorded as unanimous: Chairman Dennis Paulselli — yes; Vice Chairwoman Debbie Pacheco — yes; Commissioner Dan Robillard — yes; Commissioner Anne O'Neil Souza — yes.
Commissioners also discussed event logistics: the $8,000 allocation is a budgeted amount, not a guaranteed final expense, and will cover food, decorations and related event costs. Paulselli said the commission had been verbally approved to reserve May 2, 2026 as a deposit for next year—s event.
No further amendments or conditions were attached to the motions.
