Votes at a glance: council clears consent items, approves Edgewater extension and three Fern Lane resolutions

At its April 8 meeting the Mountain City Council took several formal actions summarized below.

Consent agenda: The council approved consent agenda items A through E earlier in the meeting, then later recessed C for discussion. After a roll call the clerk recorded all council members voting to adopt the consent items carried by the motion introduced at the start of the meeting.

Edgewater Drive expansion‑permit extension: Council voted to approve a resolution granting a one‑year extension of an expansion permit for property at 4870 Edgewater Drive, to a new expiration of May 28, 2024. Staff said this is the first one‑year extension requested since the permit’s inception and that the code allows additional extensions if re‑applied for; the applicant cited plan completion and contractor procurement as reasons for delay.

Fern Lane Townhomes: The council approved three separate resolutions for the Fern Lane Townhomes project (planning case 23‑03): (1) vacation of drainage and utility easements, (2) approval of the major subdivision preliminary plat, and (3) a conditional‑use permit for a shoreland planned‑unit development. Each resolution passed by council vote in separate motions. Staff and the Planning Commission had recommended approval with conditions including MCWD stormwater approval and HOA agreements for snow and garbage handling.

Votes recorded in public: Where available, the roll calls recorded Mayor Holt and Council members Castellano and Pugh voting yes on the Fern Lane actions and Council members McEnany and Herrick voting no on those items; the easement resolution specifically passed 3–2.
