Board members emphasized that eligibility should be based on objective criteria—academic eligibility and attendance were raised explicitly—and debated whether an additional selection committee of adults should screen applicants before a student election. Trustee comments favored avoiding a gatekeeping committee that would remove candidates from an otherwise open student vote; board members instead suggested verifying eligibility (grades, attendance) and allowing students to be elected by peers.
