Council approves variance allowing new boathouse at 75 feet from shoreline on South Shore

A city staff member presented the application for Lot 4, Block D and explained that 75 feet is the maximum distance allowed for a variance under the lake rules and regulations; the applicant said shallower water closer to shore prevents locating the structure at the typical 50-foot distance. The presenter showed a previous March 12, 2024, approval for a neighboring lot with an identical variance and displayed photos and a site diagram provided by the property owner and the city building official.
Councilwoman Mindy Gellert moved to approve the variance; Councilman Rob Goin seconded. After brief procedural remarks there was no recorded opposition and the motion carried.
Staff noted the approval is granted when the council determines the structure will not have an unreasonable or adverse impact on adjoining lake lots or approved improvements. The council did not attach additional conditions beyond the variance scope presented at the meeting.
