The Jacksonville City Council amended Article 7 of the Lake Jacksonville rules and regulations to add a section that expressly prohibits short-term rentals on city-owned lease lots.
City staff explained the amendment is a clarification rather than a change in policy; it defines short-term rentals as any rental or advertisement of a dwelling or portion of a dwelling for less than 30 consecutive days. Staff told the council the Lake Advisory Board unanimously recommended adding Section 11 at its Jan. 31 meeting.
The change is intended to prevent lessees of city-owned lake lots from promoting rentals that could conflict with lease terms. City staff said the amendment will be followed by notices to lake lot lessees, prioritizing those who appear to be advertising rentals.
Councilman Rob Goin moved to add the section; Councilman Kim McCray seconded. The council voted by voice with all in favor and the motion carried.
