Council awards cemetery mowing contract to low bidder, contract under budget

The Jacksonville City Council awarded a contract for cemetery mowing services to GE's Lawn Service, the lowest of four bids received.
City staff said the package was advertised twice in February, opened March 5, and covers a contract term backdated to February through Nov. 30 with 22 mowing cycles at two city cemeteries (the city cemetery and Resthaven) totaling roughly 50 acres combined. Staff reported four proposals ranging from $81,000 to $95,000 and recommended GE's Lawn Service at a bid read in the meeting as "$81,003.00 $4.21," which staff characterized as coming in below budget.
Councilwoman Mindy Gellert moved to award the contract; Councilwoman Letitia Horace seconded. The council voted by voice with all in favor and the motion carried. Staff said they recommended the contractor based on familiarity and prior subcontracting history.
