Manor Council OKs participation in Central Texas Learning Festival

The City of Manor City Council voted to approve the city’s participation in the Central Texas Learning Festival, directing staff to register Manor as a host site and begin recruiting partner organizations and instructors.
The festival runs across Central Texas the week of March 5–9, and Manor’s inaugural participation will be a one-day event of free workshops and classes, covering topics the city characterized as safety, finance, health and wellness, education, recreation, workforce development and community engagement. A city staff member, presenting the item, said organizers expect a mix of partner-hosted classes and city-led workshops and that marketing will be shared between the regional festival organizers and Manor.
The initiative is intended to bring residents together, showcase local services and organizations, and create a recurring culture of community learning. Mayor Harvey and council members discussed logistics including facility availability, fee waivers, and continuity. The presenter said staff will invite community organizations to submit class proposals and that the city will perform outreach to chambers, schools and nonprofits. “We will register the City of Manor as hosting it that day,” the presenter said, adding staff would manage partners and workshops for the site.
Council members asked about fiscal impact, sustainability and who would oversee ongoing partnership commitments. The presenter said the festival’s model relies on partner facilities and volunteer instructors, noting that “cost wise, it doesn’t cost us anything with our relationships with, at least in our current partnership for facility sharing.” The presenter also said the mayor would help sustain partnerships during his term and that the plan is to build the festival into Manor’s culture over time.
Council approved the motion to participate by voice vote. Staff said they will send council and partner organizations an invitation to sign up and expected to have a list of potential partners within two to three weeks.
