The City of Manor directed city administration to proceed with planning the 2025 Manor Community Day and 5K event, and asked that the council’s health committee be included in planning, after a presentation by the event organizer.
Derek White, executive director of Evolution of Health and the event coordinator, told council the proposed date is June 14 and asked the city to waive facility fees, help coordinate street closures and police support, promote the event, and cover a portion of event expenses as it did in the prior year. He said his organization will manage registrations, volunteers and vendor coordination.
Council members asked about operational improvements after last year’s event — better signage on routes, clearer volunteer instructions, and planning for heat and medical coverage during a June event. White said he would pay for emergency services to be on site this year and would improve signage and volunteer orientation.
Councilwoman Ann Weir moved that city administration proceed with the event and include the health committee in planning; an amended motion to “proceed with” (per assistant city attorney language) carried.
No specific funding amount was approved at the meeting; council directed staff to work with the organizer and return with details and a funding request later in the budget process.
