On March 27 the Lincoln Town Council unanimously adopted a resolution requesting full state funding of categorical transportation aid under R.I. Gen. Laws 16-7.2-6. The council approved the resolution following a motion for immediate consideration.
Councilor Pachet moved immediate consideration; Councilor Azar seconded. During discussion the solicitor clarified the primary purpose of the resolution: to press the state to meet its statutory obligations to assist with transportation costs for students placed outside the district for special-education programs. Councilors said the measure is intended to encourage the state to fund out-of-district transportation and related tuition obligations the town currently pays for such special-education placements.
Councilors noted the resolution is similar to measures other municipalities have filed and said it is intended to be forwarded to state lawmakers and the municipal delegation for action. The council approved the resolution by voice vote.
