Kennedale City Council and staff conducted a facilitated strategic planning workshop March 7 that included DISC-style communication exercises, a values prioritization exercise, and a drafting session for a shared vision statement.
Facilitator S. Sims guided council through a DISC assessment and exercises aimed at improving communication and mutual understanding among members. The council then listed and prioritized organizational values; after voting and discussion the group converged on a short list (examples voiced in the session included trust, integrity, stewardship, and purpose) and emphasized definitions and clarity for public presentation.
Using the prioritized values as a foundation, the group drafted a concise vision statement for Kennedale. After discussion over phrasing, council coalesced around language conveying the city’s aspirations: to foster a safe, family-oriented, thriving community that promotes a better way of life. The facilitator and council agreed to return to the statement for final wording and formatting so it can be published on city materials and tied to a 10-year strategic plan to guide capital and program priorities.
Workshop leaders asked council members to begin identifying the specific actions, locations and timelines that will be required to achieve the vision; staff will aggregate the ideas into a strategic-plan work product (a to-do list of capital projects, policy actions and partnerships) for council prioritization in a future meeting.
