The Wichita City Council authorized funding Tuesday for a 2025 program to rehabilitate five sanitary sewer lift stations across the city, approving a project budget of $1.2 million.
Don Henry of Public Works and Utilities told council the sewage-collection division operates 68 lift stations and that the rehabilitation program uses an established prioritization methodology tied to station age, condition and consequence of failure. Staff listed five stations targeted for 2025 work (including locations at South Monument, South Hydraulic, a West 40th Street station, Century II area and West Tenth Street).
Henry said the work is included in the capital-improvement program through 2029–34 and that the cost has been incorporated into the cost-of-service analysis; staff indicated the authorization will not require a sewer-rate increase. The council voted 7–0 to approve the budget and the related resolution.
