The City Council approved several special-event permits for community gatherings, including a mental-health awareness kickoff at Davis Park, a prayer-and-outreach event, the Great Southern Antique Car Rally and Carroll Police Department’s Community Night Out.
Theresa Sigler, representing Brady County Family Connections, asked the council to approve the Family Connections Mental Health Awareness kickoff at Davis Park on May 10 with one hour before and after permitted for setup and cleanup; the council approved the request. The council also approved a separate Family Connections event at the municipal airport and a prayer-in-the-park event organized by Heart to Hands (applicant Nadia Beatty) set for April 12.
Jennifer Jarvis, representing the Grady County Chamber of Commerce, requested permits for the 37th Great Southern Antique Car Rally. Council members discussed a recurring-date conflict for the rally and asked whether the city could reserve the second weekend in May annually. The clerk said the city’s process requires permit applications and suggested approving one year at a time; the council declined to set aside the weekend for a single event to keep the process fair to other annual events.
The council approved Carroll Police Department’s Community Night Out scheduled for April 17. In each case the council voted to approve the permits; individual mover and seconder names were not recorded on the transcript. Discussion centered on scheduling fairness, safety and logistics such as crowd movement and setup time.
Votes at a glance: - Brady County Family Connections Mental Health Awareness Kickoff, Davis Park, May 10, 1:30–4 p.m. (plus one hour setup/cleanup): approved. - Family Connections event at K-1 Municipal Airport, April (time listed in packet): approved. - Heart to Hands prayer event, Davis Park, April 12, 11 a.m.–2 p.m.: approved. - Great Southern Antique Car Rally (Grady County Chamber), parade and weekend events in May: approved; council declined to reserve the second weekend in May for the rally on an annual basis. - Carroll Police Department Community Night Out, April 17, 5–7 p.m.: approved.
Applicants were told to follow the clerk’s permit process and that recurring-event organizers may apply a year in advance; the council did not adopt a permanent reserved weekend for the car rally.
