Lenexa council approves minutes and consent agenda; proclaims Architecture Week and National Safe Digging Month

The Lenexa City Council approved the draft minutes of its March 18 meeting and a 10-item consent agenda during its April meeting; both approvals were made by voice vote after motions from council members.

A motion to approve the March 18 minutes was made by Council member Mark and seconded by Council member Courtney; the mayor called for a voice vote and members said "Aye," and the minutes were approved. A motion to approve consent-agenda items 1 through 10 was made by Council member Chelsea and seconded by Council member Melanie; the mayor again called for a voice vote and members responded "Aye," approving the consent agenda.

The council issued four proclamations, reading two at the meeting. Mayor Julie Sayers read a proclamation declaring April 2025 Architecture Week in Lenexa, recognizing AIA Kansas City (founded in 1890 and noted at the meeting as representing more than 1,200 members) and the role of architects in the city's design and urban character. The council also proclaimed April 2025 National Safe Digging Month; Montez Zimmerman addressed the council and described the Common Ground Alliance's national "811" call-before-you-dig system and a new CGA initiative called "55," an effort described at the meeting as aiming to reduce underground-digging damages by 50% across the country in five years.

The mayor noted that two additional proclamations on the agenda would be recognized but not read aloud. The meeting included brief recognition of students in the audience and short council remarks praising recent public-support results; no new business items were offered for discussion.
