The Lenexa City Council voted to approve a five‑year renewal of a special use permit for Nexus Church at 15101 College Boulevard.
Scott McCullough of the city’s community development department told the council the property is zoned BP‑1 (planned business park) and the church occupies a roughly 17,000‑square‑foot single‑tenant building on just over 2.5 acres. Staff noted the church typically hosts about 300 people at worship services, has accessory uses such as a preschool and weekday events, and satisfies the ordinance parking requirement (staff reported 109 on‑site spaces and a cooperative parking agreement with a neighbor).
Staff and the planning commission recommended approving a five‑year renewal because there were no known operational issues. The applicant, who noted the congregation has been in Lenexa for about 40 years, did not add additional comments.
A council motion to approve the ordinance passed without recorded opposition. The renewal allows the church to continue its current uses under the special use permit for five years; staff and the planning commission did not attach additional conditions.
Ending: The permit renewal will remain in effect for five years unless the council acts to alter it earlier.
