Weber County approves contract to host Utah Cutting Horse shows at Golden Spike Events Center

The Weber County Commission on Tuesday approved a contract to host the Utah Cutting Horse spring and fall shows at the Golden Spike Events Center, county officials said.

County officials said the cutting-horse events are among the main economic drivers for April and October in Weber County. "The Utah cutting horse has been coming to the Golden Spike for the last 7 or 8 years plus some before that," Duncan Olson, general manager of the Golden Spike Events Center, said. "They drive nearly a million dollars of economic impact bringing people to the hotels, the restaurants, and all the other services that Weber County has to offer."

Olson said the commission approved the contract to return the event next month, noting the partnership between the venue and the event organizer. The commission did not provide a vote tally or names of makers/seconders in the meeting recap; the transcript records only that "we approved the contract for the spring and the fall cutting show."
