Council approved acceptance of bids and award of contract to Donaldson Construction Company, LLC for project PN3-PD-008-25.
Nate Baldwin, city engineer, explained that the micro-surface is an overlay product containing aggregate that restores skid resistance and extends pavement life roughly six to ten years. "After you're done, it almost looks like brand new asphalt is down," Baldwin said. He described two application approaches used in the project: a standard micro-surface spray and a pressure-applied variation that forces product into deeper cracks when needed.
Baldwin said the treatment is quicker and cheaper than a full mill-and-overlay; it typically allows same-day reopening to traffic and reduces disposal and disruption costs. Councilmembers noted that the street-preservation sales tax has amplified the city's ability to perform preservation work. The contract award passed by roll call.
Donaldson Construction will begin scheduling work once contracts and notifications to affected residents are completed; Baldwin said crews will notify residents before work begins and that the treatment typically allows traffic the same day. No construction start date was given at the meeting.
