Council awards East Side sidewalk and South Main crossing contracts, notes grant funding

The Huron City Council authorized two pedestrian-infrastructure contracts on April 8.
RMH Concrete and Foundations was approved as the low bidder for the Cleveland Road East Sidewalk Extension Project (ERI-6-18.88, PID 117240) with a contract amount of $367,352.45. City staff noted that the city currently holds roughly $780,000 in construction grant funds from ODOT and Erie County for the broader work and that staff would negotiate with funding partners about reallocating unused dollars to other local projects if the current award leaves surplus funds.
DL Smith Concrete LLC won the bid for the South Main Street pedestrian crossing project (ERIDashSR0013Dash07.59, EID 121014) with a contract amount of $92,395. Staff said the South Main crossing will include high-visibility crosswalks and flashing beacons and is approximately 90% funded by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
Council asked for project maps and details about starting and ending points. Staff clarified that the East Side sidewalk will proceed on the south side of the road, start at Lincoln Avenue, include a crossing at the entrance to Huron Green (Eagle Crest) and extend to the entrance of Huron Green, with a crosswalk connecting north and south at that entrance. Staff agreed to circulate conceptual maps to council.
Why it matters: The projects extend pedestrian infrastructure and ADA access and include crossing improvements with beacons to improve pedestrian safety. Both contracts are scheduled for completion in 2025.
Next steps: Staff will circulate maps and coordinate construction with grant partners and expect both projects to be completed in 2025.
