Several schools asked for man‑trap glass and enclosed vestibules in front offices; staff said some newer man traps include small speak holes and some are fully electronic, and staff will propose a consistent approach for new and retrofit installations.
The career center requested additional AEDs for a larger facility; staff said the district has AEDs in place but devices and some medical kit components have limited lifespans and must be refreshed (staff described AED service life near five years and noted stop‑the‑bleed kit components also expire). Trustees discussed purchasing plans and potential community partner donations; staff said some community organizations can procure units at lower per‑unit costs if purchased in bulk.
Communications issues were also discussed. Milton Elementary needs functioning radios and some radios will require reprogramming; staff said the Barker Ridge antenna/repeater was reported out for repair and that one quote for a radio repeater at a new facility was about $8,000. Staff said they are working to reprogram radios to use available repeaters where possible and will include any necessary repeater work in the prioritized budget list.
Board direction: staff should include these security, life‑safety and communications items in the near‑term prioritized list for budget consideration, and provide approximate lifecycle and replacement costs where available.
