Huron council approves multiple measures, sets hearings and awards sidewalk contracts

On a series of resolutions the council waived the three-reading rule and placed several items on the first reading. Notable approvals included: a partnership agreement for the Community Housing Impact and Preservation (CHIP) program among the city, Erie County, Sandusky and Vermilion; a license agreement with River Monster Tours LLC for marina hut and dockage; and cooperation with Erie Metro Parks for park capital improvements.
The council awarded two construction contracts: RMH Concrete and Foundations received the low bid and was authorized to construct the East Side sidewalk extension, ERI-6-18.88 (PID 117240), in the amount of $367,352.45; DL Smith Concrete LLC was authorized for the South Main Street pedestrian crossing project (ERIDashSR0013Dash07.59, EID 121014) for $92,395. Both project presentations noted substantial grant funding: approximately $780,000 in ODOT/Erie County construction funds available for the East Side sidewalk and 90% funding by the Ohio Department of Transportation for the South Main pedestrian crossing.
Council also approved: a resolution authorizing application for an Erie Metro Parks local park capital grant to replace access mats at Nickel Plate Beach (not to exceed $4,368); and Ordinance 2025-9 to adopt updated replacement pages to the city's codified ordinances, passed as an emergency.
Several items passed with unanimous or near-unanimous roll-call votes. Where the record shows final adoption (for example, the CHIP partnership resolution and the two construction awards), council members recorded “yes” votes during roll call.
