Delia Gutierrez, a lifelong resident who said she has served on the Gonzales City Council and multiple local committees, told council members she has a vested interest in Gonzales’s future and is prepared to devote more time to local service after retiring from a 28-year career with Monterey County Department of Child Support Services.
Stephanie Magallon (also spelled Magallón on her application), the other finalist, described her background growing up in Gonzales, her work as a journalist with local television affiliates and her current role as a public relations representative for PG&E. Magallon said she is motivated to ensure residents have information and resources to improve quality of life.
Council discussion praised both applicants and encouraged the finalists to remain engaged in city service even if not selected. A councilmember nominated Gutierrez, a second was recorded, and the council voted in favor of the appointment.
Why it matters: The planning commission reviews and advises the council on land-use and development proposals. Gutierrez’s appointment fills a standing vacancy and moves the commission back toward full membership.
