Kennesaw mayor names SPLOST committee to develop project list for 2028 ballot

Mayor Derek Eichling announced the creation of a committee to research and generate a list of projects for approval by the mayor and council that will be submitted to Cobb County for consideration in the next Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) referendum expected to appear on a January 2028 ballot.
Marty Hughes, assistant city manager, will chair the committee. The mayor named staff and council representatives: Jennifer Gordy (Finance), Robbie Ballenger (Facilities), Bill McNair (Parks and Recreation), Ricky Stewart (Public Works), and Council Members Madeline Ortena and Tracy Buyers as the council representatives.
Eichling said the committee's purpose is to compile and vet potential projects that, if approved by the county and voters, would be funded through SPLOST beginning in 2028. The designation is an administrative assignment; no council vote was required.
The mayor used the council meeting to announce the committee membership and charge it with producing a recommended project list for council consideration before submission to Cobb County.
