The Kennesaw City Council unanimously approved a resolution to transmit the city’s 2025–2029 Capital Improvement and five-year short-term work program to the Atlanta Regional Commission and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for regional review.
City staff explained the transmittal is the annual report required to maintain the city’s qualified local government status under a development impact fee ordinance the city adopted in 2010. The ordinance imposes a one-time development fee on new construction inside city limits to fund capital improvements; the annual report documents capital projects and short-term work goals for a five-year increment and must be submitted for regional review and public notice before final adoption.
Staff said, if the report is deemed appropriate by the regional reviewers, the city will complete public notification and legal advertisements and adopt the final program by the June 30 deadline required each year.
The vote to submit the transmittal was unanimous. There were no public speakers on the item during the hearing.
Council did not yet adopt the final program at the meeting; the transmittal moves the draft into the required regional review process.
