Representative Scott said the week recognizes telecommunicators’ critical role and supplied statistics on the profession, saying nearly 2,500 public safety telecommunicators in Pennsylvania process about 14.5 million requests for emergency assistance annually.
Committee members offered brief remarks in support. Chairman Gillan noted his prior experience in dispatch and described the job’s pressures and the thinning ranks of dispatchers, encouraging recruitment and retention. Representative Dougherty made the motion to bring the resolution up for consideration; Representative Rigby seconded. Committee leadership recorded no negative votes, and the resolution was sent to the full House for consideration.
The committee did not take further action beyond forwarding the resolution to the floor.
