The Tuscaloosa City Council approved a series of discretionary disbursements from council district improvement funds, including a $500 donation to STARS Academy and $3,000 awards to Bryant High School’s band from two separate district funds.
Counselor Howard said the $500 request came from STARS Academy to support a teacher appreciation lunch and moved that amount from district 2 improvement funds. The council approved the payment by voice vote.
Council members also approved two $3,000 disbursements for the Bryant High School band from district 6 and district 7 improvement funds. During discussion, one council member noted the high cost of a tuba—"Tubas are, like, $8,000"—while another said the band would appreciate the support. The council approved both disbursements by voice vote.
Votes were taken by voice with all members saying “aye”; no roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript.
The disbursements were presented as routine uses of district improvement funds to support school programs and occasional teacher- or student-focused events.
