Commission approves grants reimbursement and event funding for local sports and community events

The Monongalia County Commission on April 9 approved a request to reimburse expenses under a SAKE grant and authorized county funding for local events.
A county staff member presented a reimbursement request for the SAKE grant in the amount of $29,580.47; a commissioner moved to approve the document and the commission approved it by voice vote.
The commission also approved funding of up to $7,500 from the Mon County Ballpark events fund to support the Mon County Classic at the Mon County Ballpark for setup, cleanup and trash removal. Staff described the Classic as a high-school baseball showcase running April 11–12 with games at the Mon County Ballpark and overflow at Mylan Park involving several visiting teams.
Additionally, the commission approved $4,006.35 for support of the West Virginia Black Bears annual Easter egg hunt at Mon County Ball Park (the earlier agenda language referenced a conditional amount of $4,635 but the motion recorded the approved amount as $4,006.35). The county noted the Easter egg hunt is free for children ages 3 to 10.
Each of these funding items was approved by voice vote; staff indicated payments will be processed from the county’s events fund as presented.
