The Community & Business Relations Committee reviewed options for the July Fourth parade route and the financial and staffing implications of returning to the original longer route.
Staff presented findings that reopening the original route would require additional purchased barrier equipment (Jersey barriers and class 3 barricades) and would increase costs by an estimated $39,000. The memorandum also reflected safety input from police and fire staff and noted limited staff capacity for a longer route.
Committee members said they valued the historic route but civil-safety and fiscal constraints made the modified 2024 route preferable to many trustees. Staff reported they have secured a shuttle provider to help transport older residents and said HarborChase and River Park have indicated willingness to provide stops or shuttles to improve access for residents with mobility limitations.
No formal committee vote was taken to change the village’s plan; the committee decided to capture feedback in the minutes and forward it to the full village board for a final decision. Trustees also asked staff to continue coordinating shuttle and drop-off locations and to finalize details outside the meeting so the board can consider the operational and budget implications.
