Officials said the garden contains 26 raised beds, each 4 feet by 20 feet, including handicapped-accessible beds. The borough plans to accept applications at Borough Hall and on the municipal website; the fee to reserve a bed this year will be $40. Council members described the first year as a trial and said participation will determine whether the program expands or requires a lottery system next season.
Councilwoman Fernandez and other members credited the borough Department of Public Works, the beautification committee and private donors (Viola Water and Pete's Woodworks) with helping prepare the site and donate supplies. The recreation and DPW reports at the meeting described continuing field maintenance and preparation for spring programs.
Councilmembers said final rules, regulations and sign-up instructions will be posted on the borough website in the coming days.
