The South Colonie Central School District Board of Education publicly recognized winter-season athletes and coaches for sectional championships and state-level performances.
Athletic Director Bill Romer and coaches led roll call recognitions. The girls basketball team won the Section II championship for the second straight year and advanced to regionals. Cheer won the Section II coed championship, the Suburban Council league title and placed fifth at the New York State championships in Binghamton. Coaches Rachel Blaine, Rachel Geisler and Jessica Starr were called forward to be recognized.
Boys and girls indoor track received extensive recognition. Coaches noted multiple individual sectional champions and state qualifiers. Ryan Buskey was highlighted for winning the high jump at the state meet, going undefeated in the season, and setting a junior-class record (reported in the meeting as 7'2"). Staff described qualifying appearances at state and national meets and several relay records and section records set by South Colonie athletes.
Other individual recognitions included wrestling, gymnastics and boys bowling. Nicole Fitzgerald placed second on the balance beam at Section II gymnastics championships and competed at the state meet; Jacob Tirado competed at the NISPA bowling championships and was noted for an exceptional series in competition.
Coaches and athletes thanked families, youth-program coaches and district staff for support. The recognitions were ceremonial; no board action was required.
