Council appoints Eric Jarvey to Human Services Commission; Jarvey fills volunteer seat after ballots

The Sammamish City Council voted April 8 to appoint Eric Jarvey to the city’s Human Services Commission and approved a series of routine procedural items.

Eric Jarvey, who applied to the Human Services Commission and spoke at the council meeting, will fill a commission vacancy after a council ballot. Jarvey told the council he wanted to help bridge a “knowledge gap” between city data and residents, describing himself as a 25‑year Sammamish resident and a volunteer with local organizations. Jason Ritchie, the other applicant, outlined priorities including climate resilience, domestic abuse response, mental‑health resources and services for seniors and youth.

Following the interview process and ballot counting, Mayor Karen Howe announced the appointment: "congratulations are in order for Eric Jarvey," the mayor said. A councilmember then moved to adopt the resolution appointing Jarvey (recorded in the meeting text as “resolution 2025-1100 appointing Eric Jarvey to the Human Services Commission”); the motion was seconded and the council voted "aye". The motion carried and the resolution was adopted.

The council also carried a motion excusing Councilmember Kent Treen and Councilmember Pamela Stewart from the meeting. That motion was made early in the meeting and approved by voice vote.

Councilmembers approved the consent calendar later in the meeting by voice vote; no items were pulled for discussion.

The council did not debate substantive policy changes in connection with the appointment; the resolution formalized the volunteer appointment and Jarvey will attend future Human Services Commission meetings as a commission member.
