The Disability Issues Advisory Board—s Board Policy 1700 working subgroup reported to the full board on April 8 that it has drafted eight recommendations, provided rationale statements, and prepared proposed policy language and a track-changes version of the current policy. DIAB Vice Chair Theresa Smith presented the subcommittee report; subcommittee lead Britney Patrick was absent but provided materials for the meeting.
The subgroup requested five follow-up actions to support a formal policy revision: creation of a hyperlinked list of relevant standard operating procedures, regulations, resolutions and administrative procedures; a follow-up meeting with Dr. Moss to present recommendations; incorporation of the DIAB policy into the formal policy-review dashboard and timeline; improved timeliness for DIAB data requests; and development of an internal ADA survey for PGCPS staff. Theresa Smith said the narrative document and track-changes file are uploaded to the DIAB Google Drive.
DIAB members asked that all full-board members be given time to review the proposed changes before any motions are brought to the floor. Board staff member Cindy (identified in the meeting as an acting director) told members the district—s policy and governance committee is unlikely to act on policy revisions before the 2025—6 school year and advised that the subcommittee share recommendations by July 1 to be considered for that cycle. Following discussion, the full board agreed to delay putting motions on the floor so members can review the posted documents and provide feedback to the subgroup.
The subcommittee also noted a separate administrative concern: delays in responses to DIAB—s data requests. DIAB members were advised to route formal data requests through Board Member Brown so they enter the district—s tracking system; staff stated that requests submitted through the board tracker typically generate an initial response within 48 hours. The subgroup said it will return with revised motions after members review the posted materials.
