Local officials and residents debate costs, studies and timing of SB319 regional fire proposal

Supporters and critics said the bill would change how fire districts are governed and funded, but multiple presenters said critical fiscal details are missing. Dale May, Fire Chief for Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District, told the advisory board that the bill is still in committee and that it remains unclear what an implementation cost would be. "Just because there's a bill doesn't mean it's going to get out of committee and go anywhere," May said, adding that a public legislative record on NELIS includes many opposing comments.
