Committee approves culvert replacement on McLean–Livingston county line

The McLean County Land Use Transportation Committee approved a resolution to appropriate funds for a culvert replacement located on the McLean–Livingston county line.
Jerry Stokes of county highway staff described the culvert as a joint facility originally flagged by the Yates Township Road Commissioner. Stokes said state law requires allocations for county-line culverts to be based on equalized assessed valuation (EAV) and that drainage openings must exceed 25 square feet to qualify under the statute cited in the meeting. Because the project will install three 42-inch culverts, the combined opening surpasses that threshold, he said. Livingston County was notified and is taking corresponding action on its side of the line.
Stokes said McLean County will perform the design and installation and then bill Livingston County for its 16.75% share. Member Duffy moved the resolution and Member Rees seconded; the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
