Commission approves ground-mounted centennial sign for Madison Elementary

The Hinsdale Plant Commission approved a masonry ground-mounted sign for Madison Elementary School at 611 South Madison Street (case A-19-2025).
The village heard a presentation from Mike Dugan, Director of Facilities for School District 181, and Dave Patton of Healy Bender Patton and Bean Architects. Patton said the sign is intended to commemorate Madison’s 100th anniversary with the school name and "Established 1925," built of masonry and limestone, and not illuminated.
Commissioners commented the design was tasteful and consistent with other district signs. "Looks great," said Commissioner Kirillenberger; several commissioners and meeting participants who identified themselves as parents endorsed the proposal. A motion to approve the design as presented carried on a roll-call vote with all recorded members voting yes: Commissioner Kirillenberger, Commissioner Cernovich, Commissioner Willoughby, Commissioner Fioscone, and Chairman Jeremy Cashman.
The commission recorded no conditions to the approval; the sign will be ground-mounted, unlit, masonry with limestone details and lettering reflective of the school’s centennial. The applicant indicated the masonry pilasters include brick corbelling (described in the record as "coining") to mirror the school’s architecture.
The commission moved on to a public-meeting item for the district’s administrative offices.
