"Organizations shall be given reasonable opportunity to renew their regularly scheduled meetings before the dates are offered to others for rental," the new policy language says, reflecting staff recommendations.
Commissioner Justin Green opposed the measure, saying the policy missed an opportunity to charge premium fees for bookings made well in advance or for holiday dates. "If someone wants to book something a year in advance... they should pay a premium for that," Green said, arguing premium pricing would protect county assets and encourage fairer access.
The motion to adopt the repeal-and-replace resolution passed on a 4-1 vote. Commissioner Adam F. Johnson moved adoption and Commissioner Hank Hughes seconded; Commissioner Green recorded the lone opposed vote (resolution number 2025043).
Why it matters: The policy change affects how community organizations, mutual domestics and residents reserve and use county community centers. The board formalized priority for recurring nonprofit and community groups while maintaining county control over holiday availability.
