The Corinth City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the Unified Development Code (UDC) definition of “gym or health/fitness center” to explicitly include sports and recreational purposes. Planning Department staff presented the change as a narrow textual amendment to UDC Section 5.02 and recommended approval; the Planning & Zoning Commission had recommended approval at its prior meeting.
Planner Matthew Lilly told the council the change adds a short clause to the end of the existing definition so that sports and recreational uses are clearly reflected. He said the use will continue to be allowed in the city’s commercial and industrial districts and in the MXC and MXR districts.
No members of the public addressed the council on the item during the public hearing. A council member moved to approve the amendment “as presented,” the motion was seconded, and the council voted unanimously to approve.
The amendment will be incorporated into the UDC through the city’s ordinance process; staff said they would prepare the ordinance for adoption at a future meeting.
