Committee approves consent agenda covering permits, grants and hearings

The Business, Housing and Zoning Committee approved its consent agenda, items 6 through 18, during the March 4, 2025 meeting, chair Jamal Osman said.

The consent package included routine licenses, grant resolutions and directions to staff. Highlights listed at the meeting were: approval of two liquor licenses (item 6), eleven gambling license renewals (item 7), a legislative directive on the tenant relocation assistance program (item 8), authorization of a public-art contract at Hiawatha and Lake (item 9), acceptance of 2024 Brownfield grants (item 10), guidelines for a “bridal fund for dance” program (item 11), approval of budget and operations for the MacPhail Center for Music (item 12), and scheduling of public hearings on cannabis business registration (item 13) and an ordinance on algorithmic rental rate decisions (item 14).

Additional consent items set hearings or referred ordinance work to staff: public hearing on a host approval for Metro School College Prep (item 15), referrals for zoning map corrections (item 16), zoning code corrections (item 17), and a referral to staff on flexible minimum height requirements (item 18). Councilmember Cashman and others briefly praised specific items on the consent agenda, including a large public-art mural contract and the bridal fund guidelines.

Chair Osman called for a motion; the committee voted “aye” and the chair declared the motion carried. The consent vote advanced the listed items as presented; where the agenda described future public hearings, staff will provide specifics at those forthcoming hearings or in the full council packet.

The committee proceeded to public hearing items on the agenda after the consent vote.
