The consent agenda included authorization for (1) a joint powers agreement with the Minnesota State Fair for additional enforcement during the fair (item 2), (2) submittal of a grant application to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for the Minnesota automobile theft prevention program (item 3), (3) a contract with the BCA for a Minnesota Human Trafficking Investigation Task Force full-time analyst (item 4), and (4) a contract with the BCA for police investigator participation on the Minnesota Human Trafficking Investigations Task Force (item 5). The record also shows scheduling a public comment period for April 9 on autonomous food delivery technology and its impact on workers (item 6).
During discussion of the State Fair joint-powers agreement (mounted patrol component), MPD staff explained the department absorbed a $150,000 ongoing reduction and chose to reduce property-services projects—items such as painting, sidewalk repair and lockers—rather than mounted patrol. “MPD did take a $150,000 ongoing reduction, in lieu of the mounted patrol reduction,” an MPD representative told the committee, explaining the city will require property-service projects to meet assessment criteria tied to the facilities assessment in the settlement agreement.
The committee also voted to postpone a public filing and presentation on the city’s response to the opioid epidemic to the May 7 meeting because of a scheduling conflict with presenters. Chair Jason Chavez moved the postponement; the motion carried by voice vote.
Finally, after presentations from the Office of Community Safety and other departments, the committee directed the clerk to receive and file the quarterly update.
