Council renews Coon Rapids police participation in state human-trafficking task force

The Coon Rapids City Council voted March 18 to renew a joint powers agreement to keep the Coon Rapids Police Department affiliated with the Minnesota Human Trafficking Investigators Task Force.
Chief Steiner told the council the department has been an affiliate member since 2018 in conjunction with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) and that renewal of the five-year agreement would help the department identify and assist trafficking victims in Coon Rapids and neighboring communities. Chief Steiner said the detective assigned to the task force remains under the supervision of the Coon Rapids Police Department and that the city would be reimbursed for investigative details related to task-force work. He said there is no cost to be a member agency.
Council member Carlson moved to renew the joint powers agreement with the Minnesota Department of Public Safety; Butler seconded. The council approved the renewal unanimously.
Council members commended the police department’s participation; Carlson said he was proud of the department’s work on these investigations.
