Planning board approves Perfect Playdate indoor play space at Milford Plaza

The Milford Planning and Zoning Board on March 18 approved a special permit for Perfect Playdate, an indoor children’s play space proposed at 161–163 Cherry Street in the Milford Plaza shopping center.
Applicant Jennifer Close described the business as “an indoor imaginative play space, designed to be a welcoming community hub for families,” aimed at children younger than the existing options in Milford. Close told the board she will lease two adjacent units — one formerly an eyelash studio and one long vacant unit — and will complete interior tenant fit-out before opening.
City staff recommended approval. Planner David Sulkes summarized the application as a tenant fit-out requiring a special permit under section 3.16 because the proposed use is not otherwise allowed by-right in that zoning category. Sulkes said no exterior changes or site alterations are proposed and recommended the board could approve with the condition that any police-department comments be satisfied prior to final sign-off.
Board members welcomed the proposal. "This proposal is a terrific use of the existing space, and it would be most welcome in Milford," said a board member. The board heard no public comment at the hearing.
The board moved to close the public hearing, then voted to approve the special permit by roll call. The vote was unanimous among members present. The applicant and the planning staff were instructed to address any outstanding police-department comments as a condition of final approval.
Perfect Playdate will occupy about 4,700 square feet once the two tenant spaces are combined, according to the staff summary. The applicant said the business will serve very young children, including crawlers, and provide seating for caregivers.
The board closed the public hearing and approved the application; staff will circulate the conditions and any outstanding comments to the applicant for compliance before the permit becomes effective.
