The district’s Student Roundtable reported progress on a student-organized career fair and on a planned mental-health week.
Hamnan Faisadeen, president of the Student Roundtable, told the board the two-year initiative to host a districtwide career fair is scheduled for April 25 with two shifts (9–11 a.m. and 1–3 p.m.) and that last year’s event attracted roughly 500 students and more than 40 professions. Faisadeen said student committees have finalized a physical layout, registration and bussing plans, marketing efforts (posters and a video), and volunteer recruitment; he said 10 volunteers were confirmed with 10 more pending and asked the board and community to sign an emailed Google form to volunteer or offer internships.
Student Roundtable also reported on preparations for a planned mental-health week that would culminate in a field day, and the group announced new officers for next year, with Sohan Patelu named president-elect.
Board response and offers of help: Trustees and staff commended the student organizers. Trustee Weems and others offered community college and university connections for mental-health resources; President Williams and other trustees suggested keeping lines open for student voice in policy discussions and explored opportunities to include student input at board retreats.
Ending: Students said they will send the volunteer sign-up to the district listserv and proceed with event preparations; trustees offered logistics and resource support as requested.
