Edinburg CISD reports 33,330 students, a year‑over‑year decline of 576; district adds new reporting columns

Martinez highlighted new elements added to the board’s report: bilingual (emergent bilingual) counts, migrant columns, and a new column tracking first‑time in‑district transfers (students who transferred for the first time within ECISD this year).
Martinez gave campus‑level examples to explain the transfers column: Austin Elementary showed a zero net change because it received 32 in‑district transfers and lost 32; Avila Elementary showed a net gain of 18 (37 in, 19 out); Betts Elementary showed a net loss of two (21 in, 23 out). He also reported other figures that year‑to‑date: “we have 101 high school students that have graduated year to date” and “we have 216 new students” who had never been with ECISD before. On migrant students he said the district has recorded 20 migrant student withdrawals this school year and that the cumulative migrant percentage remained 3.76%.
Board member Louie Alamia asked Martinez to add another column correlating the number of emergent bilingual students to campus accountability ratings (a–f), saying it would help target supports. Martinez replied he would work with the executive team to provide that data.
Superintendent Mario Salinas placed the drop in context, telling trustees that while ECISD shows a decline, it is smaller than the losses experienced in some neighboring districts. He also said the district has nine charter schools operating inside its attendance boundaries and cited Region 1 data showing 1,898 students in the ED area who do not live in Edinburg.
