Red-light camera revenue drew particular attention during the April 9 budget work session after staff reported unexpectedly high collections in FY25.
Lisa said the FY26 budget includes $637,500 in red-light camera receipts; she noted that through March of FY25 the town was on track to collect about $748,000 and that April collections were trending similarly. Staff said the FY26 estimate is based on a monthly average of roughly $53,000 and that they would monitor that line closely.
Commissioners asked whether additional red-light cameras were being considered. Lisa said she did not believe more locations were currently planned but that deployment requires documented accident data and tragedies at the location to support another camera; she asked the police chief to confirm. Commissioners referenced existing camera locations in and near downtown and several state routes and asked staff to pass location concerns to the police chief for review.
No formal decision to add cameras or change enforcement policy was made at the session; staff said they would follow up with the police chief and report back to the board.
