Emergency official updates Jefferson County on continuing flood response and relief logistics

An emergency management official (Speaker 4) told Jefferson County leaders the county remains in active flood response, with a voluntary shelter open, sandbag distribution ongoing and logistics for mass cleanup and assistance being organized.

"We've put out, I wanna say, close to 3,000 sandbags," the official said, describing distribution from a Seymour Distribution Center and noting additional pallets and empty bags staged at the county Logistics Building. The official said one family had used the voluntary shelter and that the Red Cross had been assisting with sheltering and check-ins.

Speaker 4 described river conditions and local impacts: Riverstage was recorded at 4,585 with a predicted crest near 4,586; some roads in the eastern county were closed and Brooksburg remained effectively isolated by high water. The official said crews were documenting equipment use, personnel hours and other costs for potential state public assistance and that the county was preparing damage assessments and pre-staging dumpsters and muck-out supplies.

The official said the county is coordinating with volunteer organizations (VOAD), distributing meal-ready-to-eat (MRE) pallets ("I've got 8 skids of MREs"), and preparing muck-out buckets for affected households. They also said local leaders had been advised on whether events will be counted as one or two separate weather incidents for documentation purposes.

The official cautioned that precise thresholds and the status of any presidential (FEMA) declaration were not finalized in the meeting; staff said they were pursuing state-level declaration and would submit documentation for public assistance as required.

The official said they would meet with volunteer fire companies and other partners to finalize paperwork and coordinate next steps.
