Jefferson County approves $307,000 in transfers to cover camera contract and insurance renewal

Jefferson County officials voted to approve a set of supplemental appropriations totaling $307,000 to cover an annual camera contract and a jump in the county's property and liability insurance renewal.

A staff member (Speaker 3) told the council the county had included $5,000 in the prosecutor deferral fund to pay for the annual contract for Flock cameras and said an advertising error had listed the amount incorrectly. "This is for their contract for flock cameras. We pay this every year. I did accidentally advertise it for 2,400, and that's actually the fund number," the staff member said, asking the council to approve the full $5,000 and noting the remaining $2,600 would be handled later in the budget.

The council also approved a $302,000 transfer from public safety to cover a steep renewal increase in property and liability insurance. The staff member said the higher cost was driven partly by the county jail and recent court-related claims and that one broker ran the request through a system to gather multiple quotes. The staff member said some insurers declined to quote because of the jail exposure; to reduce a potential large deductible for hail and wind to a more manageable level the county purchased an additional policy "for a buy down."

Speaker 5 moved to approve the $5,000 transfer and later moved to approve the $302,000 transfer; both motions passed following voice votes. The council then approved Resolution 2025-006, described at the meeting as the combined supplemental appropriation totaling $307,000.

Meeting minutes for the prior session (March 11) were also approved earlier in the meeting on a voice vote.
